PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT

Music is a universal language, a pure and unique method of communication. Through music, a person can achieve an understanding of beauty, expression, and the appreciation of the finer things in life through the actual participation in them. The Tunstall Music Department pursues excellence in the education of the students in many areas. The largest and most obvious are performance technique and aesthetic education. Also, the music programs are designed to strengthen critical thinking, language processing skills, mathematical-logical skills, fine motor development, historical relationships, and relationships with self and others. In order to achieve desired qualities, each student will be expected to put individual effort toward the collective goal. Each student will be required to attend many hours of practice. This is necessary to achieve the highest levels of excellence and precision, build stamina and endurance, and develop a unified picture. Through the music and visual arts, it is hoped that to each student a richer life will be given.
